Why do some couples refuse to get a divorce, despite being unhappy for so long?

Also, if they were your parents, how would you cope? Why do some couples refuse to get a divorce, despite being unhappy for so long?
There can be many reasons but the main one that seems is only for the sake of children. Well the best way to sort out this problem is to love them and make them realize that u feel so complete with them. Soon they will feel ur inner desire and surely the things will change.

Sometimes people are in a relationship for so long that they get it into their heads that they can't do better, or they won't find anyone else because of their age or looks. A very good friend of mine has parents like this... her dad is a verbally and emotionally abusive alcoholic and he cheats on her mom at least once or twice a year and he always has a new girlfriend. But her mom won't leave him because they've been married for over 25 years, and she fears that she won't find anyone else because she's not young anymore. I see this a lot. And it's really sad. If my parents were in that situation I'd convince them to at least take a break and start seeing people to prove to them that there are other options out there. Options that don't involve being constantly miserable.

A lot of time they refuse to get a divorce because they don't want to break up the family bond they have with their kids.

And the best way to cope? Be honest with them, and tell them how you feel. It'll help. Then they will understand that you feel the way you do.
Usually for the kids if there are any or most often, for financial reasons.
