Do gay couples really want the same rights and privileges that hetero couples have?

If so, why not lobby for such a civil union and call it something other than ';marriage';. Is it wrong for hetero couples to want to keep this word for themselves? If anybody is to be truly honest about the subject they will realize that nobody really objects to gay civil unions, but don't want to share the word ';marriage'; with such unions.Do gay couples really want the same rights and privileges that hetero couples have?
All i know is the Divorce Attorneys are going for it!!Do gay couples really want the same rights and privileges that hetero couples have?
Yes they do...but I think it should be called something else (civil unions....but with more of the rights that married people have) they(homosexuals) are trying to say it(hetero unions and homo unions) is the same but it is not...if it was the same it would not be called homosexual, gay, lesbian or heterosexual...there would be no names to differentiate...
Well, ultimately I think it's important that gay people have the right to a ';marriage';. But unlike lots of people, I still think having a civil union with all the rights and benefits, but with a different name, is a massive step in the right direction.

Acceptance takes time. After slavery ended, it was still a long time before blacks were ';legally'; treated as equals. It seems like some gay people don't understand that expecting total equality RIGHT NOW is unrealistic. Oh we'll get it someday, I have no doubt about that. It's just going to take a while.
Because the fight is about EQUALITY.

To say ';I have a civil union'; and a hetero couple say ';I'm married'; isn't equal. Also, civil unions aren't the same as marriage. There's no tax breaks, survivor benefits, inheritance rights, custody rights, etc..that there are with a legal marriage.

And honestly?? So many ';straight'; people have already stolen things unique to the gay culture (like metrosexual men ring a bell? Or girls who think it's ok to get drunk and kiss their g/f at the bar? How about our fashion and art? Or our hairstyles? ) When is it going to be OUR turn to have something YOU guys have?
Imagine if a certain race couldn't get married, but they can get civil unions instead. You're being denied equal rights just because you're a particular race. Not so fair now, is it?
You have a point, but ';I'm civilly united'; doesn't have the same emotional intensity as ';I'm married';.
ys we do
