I knew four couples that started as sweethearts -- only one couple is still together. The first pair had a kid just before they were married, and divorced after only about a year, the second after three years with one kid, and the third toughed it out for 15 because they had two kids but finally decided it was either get divorced or kill each other. The last couple never had kids but has been happily together now for a little over 30 years... my wife and I. Moral of the story must be: don't have kids. What happens to most couples that get married to their highschool sweethearts?
Apparently it depends upon when they get married. Some couples can hardly wait to get married like two days after they graduate from high school (if they make it that far). Other couples continue to see each other for some years after high school. According to this website, statistics show that women and men who get married under the age of 25 have the highest divorce rates. The study was originally done in 1990 with a supplement added in 1995. I would guess that the numbers will be higher now.
I am married to my high school sweetheart. I have know him since I was 12 and he was 13. We have 3 kids together. Ages are 12,11 %26amp; 7.
We have been married 8 1/2 yrs now. 9 in April. I will say that we have had our times...good %26amp; bad but as with anything else a marriage is all about what you put into it. Unless both parties are willing to commit and make it work, then it won't last. Myself as well as others are examples that it can work with hard work and dedication. Good Luck!
I assume you are talking about marrying a highschool sweetheart, but not necessarily when still IN highschool.
We did. Married 25+yrs and going stronger each year. We waited for 5 yrs after school. Best decision I ever made.
Like anything else, it varies from person to person, couple to couple.
Big secret that shouldn't be a secret - don't have kids till you really know each other, and that takes years. I mean REALLY know each other. Kids strain a marriage no matter how you look at it.
I am married to mine. Been with him since we were 16, its been very tough let me tell you that. It takes alot of commitment from both parts. U marry so young that u change as u get older and they become a different person in which you fell in love with and married but besides all that I think its beautiful and I wouldnt change him for the world. My goal is to grow old with him but it is all up to God and our commitment for eachother. Best of luck to you.
My relationship has been going strong for four years. Small number of years compared to most, but we are both after the same things in life, and everything is looking good from here. But we both know it is ridiculous to think there is no way things could ever go wrong, and I think that makes us an even better couple. :)
50-50 shot at happiness, same as anyone else. Although I do know a couple who broke up at the end of high school, married other people,
had kids, got divorced, and 15 years after high school met and married. They've been together happily for 25 years now, the second time around.
Most end up supporting America's 123rd most successful industry...
...that's right, the DIVORCE industry.
my best friends parents got married and they were high school sweethearts and got married at liek 19 and now like 12 years later they are getting divorced so i think that you should wait before getting married
I graduated in 1960, yes a long time ago. Three couples from my graduating class did get married. All three couples are still together.
it jst depends on the person i mean ive been with my hubby since junior year and weve been together for 3 years and still strong
Well, I am married to mine. We got together at 16 and we are now 27 and 28 and we never broke up ....Just like any other marriage I guess
There is no way of telling! I married mine and after 8 yrs and 2 beautiful babies we grew apart! If he would have been different we might still be together til this day!
Who knows?!
