What happens to couples who have fraud marriages for green cards?

I understand that you have to be married for 2 years before your wife or husband can apply for a green card.

At the INS office when you undergo interviews, what happens if you fail? What are the fines and/or jail time duration?

How often does immigration even catch these people?

PS: this is just out of curiosity. I'm 21 and have no plans to get married (yet)! What happens to couples who have fraud marriages for green cards?
You can apply for a green card as soon as you marry. But that green card is conditional for 2 years and you have to apply to remove the conditions (i.e. to get a permanent green card). Both times you have to get interviewed.

I have no idea how often they deny people but if you are found to be guilty of immigration fraud, the immigrant is sent to jail while they await their deportation hearing. The US applicant will also be charged and could face jail time. What happens to couples who have fraud marriages for green cards?
I have been through this already, and our government does not do a damn thing about it. The foreigner can divorce even before the 2 years, they will just need a immigration attorney to file a change of status. Once they get here and marry a U.S citizen, then they are clear to do what they want, they will just need a immigration attorney.
