I am considering ';Relationship rescue'; by Dr. Phil. Is that a good choice for myself and my Fiancee?
We get along well, but we want to improve it more. We want communicate better, fight fairly, avoid arguments, and remain positive in our relationship.
Any suggestions? What are some excellent books on communication for young or just married couples?
Honestly? I've read Dr. Phil's books, and while they were good, I don't think my relationship benefited from them nearly as much as one single book that literally changed the way that my husband and I interacted with one another.
';The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate'; by Gary Chapman. It's not preachy and it doesn't look to lay blame on who's at the root of the unhealthy things that naturally occur that erode your relationship. It REALLY helps you understand where your partner is coming from, what their needs are, what makes them feel good - and helps you and your partner identify those same characteristics in your own personality. There are some religious mentionings in this book, but no more than references in Dr. Phil; and don't let that put you off, because we are not very religious and we found the book to still be a huge help.
I bought the book about ten years ago, and since then they've gone a step further by publishing a ';his'; and ';hers'; version. I haven't read them yet, but I certainly intend to do so!
';Love Languages'; will really put your relationship into perspective, and show you (easy) healthy ways to keep it going. It really helped my husband and I communicate in a positive, constructive way that had never occurred to us before.
Hope this helps. Good luck to you both...

You might want to read this one by Michael Webb who is a relationship expert. Dr. Phil is a psychologist. Michael Webb was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey on her show recently and he was good.
I have included a link to his book plus some other great sources below.
